Your shopping centre’s 3D sign catches the interest of the public. It demands attention, while encouraging them to explore the options available to them. It is an important, valuable asset, but it will suffer from wear and tear over time. Dirt, dust, pollen, even exhaust from automobiles will affect it. The good news is that some simple care and maintenance tips will keep that 3D sign looking great for years to come.

Wash It

You might think that rain would rinse most of the dirt from your sign, but that’s actually not the case. In fact, in some cases, rain could actually cause spotting and lead to further build up. You should wash your exterior 3D sign seasonally (once per season). When you do, use clean water and automotive soap designed for washing cars to avoid damaging the finish of your sign.

When washing, make sure you are gentle with the sign. Edges, hardware, and other elements of dimensional letters can be damaged. It may be necessary to remove some components prior to cleaning to ensure you remove as much dirt and debris as possible.

Note that if you’re located in downtown Melbourne, the level of air pollution may require that you wash your sign more frequently. Because the city has a coastal environment, salt can also build up, causing additional corrosion that will need to be removed regularly in order for your sign to stand the test of time.

When choosing your cleaning tools, opt for a soft, non-abrasive cloth. The same cloth can be used for dusting the sign during periods when washing is not necessary, but light cleaning is called for. Never use a scrub brush or abrasive pad on your sign or it will damage the finish. Also, never use any sort of solvent or acid, and avoid using detergents, as all of these will cause damage to your sign’s finish. Pressure washing is also not recommended.

Waxing

Do not wax your 3D sign unless you are sure that the material is suitable for waxing. Not all materials benefit from waxing. Make sure that the automotive soap you choose does not include a wax or polishing agent. However, on certain types of materials, both waxes and polishes can improve the look of the sign and even help prevent dirt and dust from building up as quickly. Not sure if you can wax your 3D sign? Interior 3D Signs

Interior 3D signs will need less rigorous cleaning, but they will still need regular care. Our recommendation is to wipe them down with a clean, soft cloth every three months at a minimum. There should be no need to wash the sign, but if liquid is applied/spilled, it should be blotted dry immediately.

3D signs should be kept clean at all times – it creates a more appealing appearance and create a positive impression with your potential customers.
